WordPress started out as a simple blogging platform. In 2016, blogging and publishing are still the core kernel of what WordPress is. Be that as it may, it hasn’t stopped the WordPress community from creating a plethora of wonderful plugins which transform WordPress from a simple blog engine into a powerful eCommerce platform.
Start selling digital products with WordPress
One of the best ways to make a living online is selling digital products. I’ve spent the past 13 years selling digital products online so I’ve learned a few things along the way about what works and more importantly, what doesn’t!
Back when I first started selling digital products online, the options for selling online were few and crap. Today we’re spoilt for choice. Outside of the WordPress ecosystem you have wonderful platforms like Gumroad which are perfect if you want a turnkey solution and don’t mind handing control of the sales process to a third party. Frankly for many people just getting started – Gumroad is probably perfect.
But if you don’t want to give up control of your sales funnel then thanks to some kickass WordPress plugins like WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads it’s possible to run the whole thing from your own site. But I’ve also seen first-hand how intimidating it can be to do it properly.
Over the next few months I intend to create my first digital product for Incomegems and I will be documenting the process from start to finish here on the blog. Starting next week I’ll be setting out my process for how I go about creating a digital product. We’re going to start simple and create an eBook! It’s been a long time since I’ve created an eBook actually, so I’m looking forward to dusting down my process for creating an eBook and refreshing it for 2016. I see a ton of crap eBooks popping up everyday that could be made so much better with a bit more care and attention so I think it’s high time I show ’em how it’s done 🙂
